Three apprenticeships secure full-time employment at CAV Systems.
Joe Pattterson, Luke Dorritt and Olly Walton who are all based at the ice protection specialists’ main manufacturing facility in Consett, County Durham have joined the team as full time employees after successfully completing their Level 2 Lean Manufacturing apprenticeships.
Working with Derwentside College the apprentices have also had extensive in-house training which includes press forming, ice protection panel assembly and testing enabling them to develop a range of skills required for the production of bespoke aviation parts.
David Peverley, CAV’s production manager said: “Apprenticeships are really important to our business and are an excellent way to develop and learn new skills. Here at CAV, we place a lot of emphasis on passing skills onto other people. It isn’t about how long you have worked here the focus is on learning so you are able to develop skills that will see you through your career.
“I am delighted that we have been able to offer Joe, Luke and Olly full time roles with the business. All three have gone from strength to strength and are welcome additions to the team.”
Olly Walton said: “For me the apprenticeship route was a natural choice as I didn’t want to go to college or sixth form after I finished my GCSEs. I’d heard good things about the company before I started from my friend Luke as he’d just secured an apprenticeship here, so I applied and was so happy when I got the job.
“I am based in the company’s Hardware Cell, so I mainly focus on pressure switches, air bleed valves and filters which are all used within individual ice protection systems. Everyone is really supportive of each other, but you also have a lot of responsibility as the emphasis is very much on sharing knowledge. Everyone passes their skills on, so you are constantly learning.”
Production team leader Tracy McCall added: “It is fantastic seeing how far all the apprentices have come since starting their roles. As newly qualified production operators, new opportunities for further training opportunities will be available to expand their skillset. We look forward to seeing how they grow and develop in their future with CAV.”
CAV also employs apprentices across other areas of the business including finance and engineering. To learn more please visit Life at CAV to hear from other employees.
