Awards Nomination

19th March 2026

CAV Systems are delighted to share that Lean Manufacturing Apprentice Thomas Green has been nominated for Apprentice of the Year at the upcoming Insider Media Made in the North East Awards later this month.

These prestigious manufacturing awards are held annually. The event celebrates and rewards the high-quality manufacturing businesses and individuals from the North East, highlighting the best of innovation and excellence from across the region.

Thomas joined the company in April 2025 through Derwentside College. Talking about his role, he said “I do a few different jobs, which I enjoy as it really breaks up the working week. I joined CAV as an apprentice because I much prefer practical work.

“Their apprenticeship programme has been amazing, allowing me to get hands-on experience in a real working environment and getting paid for it, whilst also learning through my college work.”

There are ten other candidates nominated for the award; Joseph Lowery from South West Durham Training, Sam Mayes from Katmex, Abigayle Neil from Darchem Engineering, Matthew Black from Cicor Hartlepool, Lewis Dixon from IPS Newcastle, George Wilkinson from CA Group, Bradley Quinn from ERW Joinery, Ben Donnison from Renovo Solutions, Ethan Campbell from Reproflex3, and Troy Blaimire from Tridonic UK.

Speaking with Thomas’ manager Shaun, he said “we are all so proud of him for getting nominated. He does everything asked of him and more, once he’s finished on one job he always asks if there’s anything else he can help with, and he isn’t afraid to ask questions if he gets stuck.”

Being held at the Hilton Newcastle Gateshead hotel, the team are excited to be attending, supporting their fellow team member for his nomination.
